Not All Stones Are Created Equal

You may be asking yourself; how do I know what stone is right for me this spring? You may be feeling overwhelmed by the choices, colors and size options available. You may not know what is in style for this particular year, or for years to come. That’s where the experts at Carolina Stone Supply are able to help! In this blog, you will find out about different stone types, sizes and trends.

Different stones are used for different things.

The first thing you need to understand is that different types of stone are used for different things. You have crushed gravel that can be used on walkways or driveways. Natural round stone that looks beautiful around gardens, and even helps with erosion and irrigation. There is also flagstone used for walkways or patios. Veneer for decorative siding or walls. No matter what your project may be, there is a stone that is best.

Understanding Decorative and Crushed Gravel

Decorative gravel and crushed gravel come many different shapes and sizes. You have rounder pieces of stone, as well as more jagged pieces. This allows you to add different textures to your property.

When it comes to size, different sizes offer you different things. Small “pea stone” comes in sizes such as 5/16” or 3/8”. This small stone is perfect for driveways and walkways. It is small enough that it will pack tightly and create a level surface to walk or drive over. Want something less traditional? You can even use seashells!

A mid-sized stone our clients love is our 1” to 3” sized stone. These sizes are great for flower beds, lining walkways and lining patios. 2” + is great for erosion control.

When you get to larger pieces of stone 10” + you can use this for building walls, lining fire pits, and even as outlines to a garden. We offer these sizes in pallets, so you can be sure how much you are getting.

Veneer and Flagstone

Stones such as flagstone and veneer come in bigger slabs. They are used for more decorative elements. These require more time to install but will make your overall curbside appeal much higher than it was. Veneer can be used on the front of houses, and flagstone could be used to create a pathway.

What color should I get?

When choosing a stone for you, it is important to consider all your options. There are many different colors to choose from. To get a better understanding of what colors are in trend check out this blog!

We always recommend that our Southern United States customers look at brown and tan tones. For our coastal south we recommend lighter stones such as a bayside skimmer.

We have many options to choose from, no matter the project. Contact our experts today to learn more about what products are right for you!
